The Origin

I started reading labels — and couldn't stop.

It started with a simple question: what am I actually eating? I picked up a box of something I'd been buying for years, flipped it over, and stared at an ingredient list that read like a chemistry exam. I recognized maybe three things on it.

So I started researching. One ingredient led to another. One study led to ten more. And the more I learned, the more I realized that most people — myself included — had no idea what was really in their food. Not because they didn't care, but because the information was buried, complicated, or designed to confuse.

"The food industry spends billions making labels look clean. I built ClearIngredient to show you what's actually there."

The Mission

Transparency without the fear tactics.

There's no shortage of apps and influencers telling you that everything is toxic and the food supply is trying to kill you. That's not what ClearIngredient is about.

Our approach is science-backed, not fear-based. Every ingredient in our database is evaluated on evidence — not headlines. We believe you deserve accurate information, presented clearly, so you can make your own decisions. We're not here to tell you what to eat. We're here to make sure you actually know what's in it.

Why I Built This

The app I wish already existed.

I searched for a tool that could scan a label and give me a straight answer — not a lengthy article, not a scare story, not a sales pitch for a "clean" alternative. I wanted something that would just tell me what each ingredient was, whether I should be concerned, and why.

That tool didn't exist. So I built it. ClearIngredient is the result — a fast, honest, science-grounded ingredient scanner built for real people making real decisions in the grocery store aisle.

The Content

Education is the product.

Beyond the app, I run the Food Detective content brand — YouTube videos, a blog, and a newsletter — all dedicated to ingredient education. No alarmism, no agenda. Just the information you need, explained in plain English, backed by science.

The goal is simple: the more you know about what's in your food, the better equipped you are to make choices that are right for you and your family.

"You shouldn't need a chemistry degree to understand what you're eating."
