Acceptable Use Policy — ClearIngredient

The short version: Use ClearIngredient for what it was built for — learning about ingredients, scanning labels, and making informed food choices. Don't misuse it, abuse it, or try to exploit it. We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate this policy.

Section 01

Purpose of This Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") establishes the rules and standards for using ClearIngredient. It exists to protect the integrity of the application, ensure a fair experience for all users, and prevent misuse that could harm other users, third parties, or the application itself.

By using ClearIngredient, you agree to comply with this policy in addition to our Terms of Service and all other applicable policies. This AUP applies to all users regardless of subscription tier.

Section 02

Permitted Uses

ClearIngredient is designed for personal, educational, and non-commercial use. The following uses are permitted:

Personal ingredient scanning — Scanning food labels for your own personal use and education

Educational research — Using ingredient information and the dictionary for personal learning and food literacy

Dietary management — Using the Avoid List, Health Goals, and dietary preference features for personal health management

✓

Content sharing — Sharing scan results and ingredient information on social media for personal, non-commercial purposes with appropriate attribution to ClearIngredient

✓

Family use — Using a single account for personal and immediate family household food transparency purposes

Section 03

Prohibited Uses

The following uses of ClearIngredient are strictly prohibited. Violation of any of these prohibitions may result in immediate account termination:

Automated access: Using bots, scrapers, crawlers, or automated tools to access, extract, or collect data from ClearIngredient without express written permission

Reverse engineering: Attempting to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or derive source code from any part of the application

Unauthorized access: Attempting to gain unauthorized access to any system, database, account, or infrastructure associated with ClearIngredient

Account sharing: Sharing your account credentials with others or allowing multiple users to access a single account simultaneously for commercial benefit

Commercial exploitation: Reselling, sublicensing, or commercially exploiting ClearIngredient features, data, or content without written authorization

Data harvesting: Systematically collecting, storing, or redistributing ingredient data, safety ratings, or other content from the application for any commercial purpose

Interference: Taking any action that interferes with, disrupts, or places an unreasonable burden on the application's servers, infrastructure, or performance

Impersonation: Impersonating ClearIngredient, its operators, or other users in any communication or context

Fraudulent activity: Using the application in connection with any fraudulent, deceptive, or illegal activity, including but not limited to payment fraud, identity fraud, or money laundering

Vulnerability exploitation: Probing, scanning, or testing the application for security vulnerabilities without express written authorization from ClearIngredient

Misinformation: Deliberately sharing or misrepresenting ClearIngredient analysis results in a misleading or harmful way

Circumventing limits: Creating multiple accounts to circumvent free tier scan limits or other usage restrictions, including chargeback abuse after using premium features

AI prompt manipulation: Attempting to manipulate, override, or exploit the AI ingredient analysis system to produce inaccurate or harmful outputs

Malicious content: Submitting images containing illegal content, malware, exploits, or anything other than food product packaging for analysis

Section 04

API & Developer Access

ClearIngredient does not currently offer a public API. Any programmatic access to ClearIngredient data or functionality — including accessing our endpoints through unofficial means — is prohibited without express written authorization.

Section 05

Reporting Violations & Security Disclosure

If you become aware of any misuse of ClearIngredient or a potential violation of this Acceptable Use Policy, please report it to us at contact@clearingredient.app with the subject line "AUP Violation Report."

If you are a security researcher who has identified a vulnerability in ClearIngredient, we ask that you report it to us responsibly through the same email address with the subject line "Security Disclosure" before any public disclosure. We commit to:

— Acknowledging your report within 5 business days
— Not pursuing legal action against good-faith security research
— Crediting you publicly upon request once the issue is resolved (unless you prefer anonymity)

"Good-faith" means you make a reasonable effort to avoid accessing or modifying user data and you give us reasonable time to fix issues before public disclosure (typically 90 days).

Section 06

Enforcement & Consequences

Violations of this Acceptable Use Policy may result in immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account without refund. In cases of serious violations — including unauthorized access attempts, data harvesting, or fraudulent activity — we reserve the right to pursue all available legal remedies.

ClearIngredient reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this policy and to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in connection with any investigation of illegal activity conducted through or in connection with the application.

We may modify, suspend, or terminate access to any feature of the application at any time for users who are found to be in violation of this policy, with or without prior notice depending on the severity of the violation.

Per our Refund & Cancellation Policy, refunds are not provided for accounts terminated due to policy violations.

Section 07

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the application, legal requirements, or best practices. When material changes are made, we will notify registered users by email and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

Your continued use of ClearIngredient after any changes to this policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
